Printing onto reflective surfaces, the artist begins to see themselves in the work but also makes the audience aware of themselves while looking at the art. How does it make them feel to be a viewer? How does it feel to be perceived while intending to only be a viewer?
Bailey Wait is a lens-based artist in Brooklyn, New York. Wait creates atmospheric spaces to disconnect from reality while focusing on the tension between being a viewer and of being perceived by printing on reflective surfaces. Wait graduated from Bennington College in 2020.
Bailey started showing work publicly while in Berlin, Germany. She was part of a group show titled "Out of Place" 2018 at Tête Gallery. Life in Berlin, enhanced her fascination with transforming three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional photographs to be printed onto glass, mirror, and aluminum. Wait debuted solo work at Cynthia Reeves Gallery on the Mass Moca campus Followed by "A Hole to Climb Into" 2020 and Serving the People's BFA 2020 Show online. She has recently organized the art show “Anchor” at Neo Castelli Gallery and shown an aluminum print @ 440 Gallery and a 120mm photograph @ Shockboxx Gallery part of No Man’s Land group show.
